Want to learn more about working with clay alongside fellow local artists? Join one of our weekly learning clubs to learn new skills, gain inspiration from fellow artists, and share your knowledge with them too.
All skill levels welcome. No prior experience needed.
Weekly clubs will take place at Mary Helen’s home studio, Kiln Club HQ, in southwest Austin near Brodie and William Cannon. (The exact address will be shared after signup.)
Clubs include:
- Attendance for one weekly club session (3 hours).
- As much or as little guidance and instruction as you’d like.
- Access to studio tools, equipment, and studio glazes.
- Firing for pieces made during club sessions.
- Access to open studio on Sunday mornings (10am to noon).
- Monthly tuition is $175/month. Drop-in tuition is $55/session.*
- Members of ATX Kiln Club receive $15 off monthly tuition or $5 off drop-in tuition.
Hand Building & Sculpture Club
Fall, Winter and Spring:
- Tuesdays, from 11:00 to 2:00pm,
- Thursdays, from 11:00 to 2:00pm
Summer schedule (during AISD break):
- Mondays, from 3pm to 6pm
- Tuesdays, from 3pm to 6pm
Hand Building & Sculpture will focus on developing basic and advanced skills and techniques used in hand built ceramics. We will work on techniques such as slab building, coil building, and the use of molds. We will also play with surface decoration techniques such as sgraffito, slip trailing, transfer printing, and more.
Grow your sculpture skills by working alongside Mary Helen as she shares what she has learned about the art form so far. Create works of art using coils, slabs, molds, and more, and see your imagination come to life during weekly sessions.
